Somewhat true, and untrue... [17 Apr 2007|02:49pm]

The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Personality
You are more emotional than logical, more concerned about self than concerned about others, more religious than atheist, more dependent than loner, more workaholic than lazy, more rebel than traditional, more artistic mind than engineering mind, more idealist than cynical, more leader than follower, and more introverted than extroverted.

As for specific personality traits, you are adventurious (100%), religious (93%), innovative (93%), intellectual (78%).

Stereotypes
Old Geezer100%
College Student91%
Young Professional80%

Life Experience
Sex29%
Substances54%
Travel3%

Politics
Your political views would best be described as Socialist, whom you agree with around 100% of the time.
  Socioeconomic
Your attitude toward life best associates you with Working Class. You make more than 44% of those who have taken this test, and 82% less than the U.S. average.

If your life was a movie, it would be rated PG-13.
By the way, your hottness rank is 43%, hotter than 7% of other test takers.

Sir Richard Branson has started Virgin Galactic. A private space tourism company, with flights expected to happen in the next 2-3 years. This is a joint project between Virgin and Scaled Composites run by Burt Rutan who has won the X-Prize for his project SpaceShipOne, a craft capable of travelling into space efficiently, only losing 20% of its mass each launch. His craft won the X-Prize, a $10m(US) reward, as it managed to launch into space twice within a two week period. He is now working on SpaceShipTwo, a suborbital spaceship that is meant to be capable of taking 9 passengers.

So she went into the garden to cut a cabbage-leaf to make an apple-pie; and, at the same time, a great she-bear coming up the street pops its head into the shop- What! no soap? So he died; and she very imprudently married the barber: and there were present the Picninnies, and the Joblilies, and the Garyulies, and the great Panjandrum himself, with the little round button at top. And they all fell to playing the game of 'catch as catch can', till the gun power ran out at the heels of their boots.

There was an old man of St. Bees,
Who was stung in the arm by a wasp.
When asked, "Does it hurt?"
He replied, "No, it doesn't-
I'm so glad it wasn't a hornet."

Between 1000 B.C. and A.D. 1000 various treatises on mathematics were authored by Indian mathematicians in which were set forth for the first time, the concept of zero, the techniques of algebra and algorithm, square root and cube root. Vedic mathematics, as it is referred to today, is a separate field of study and courses are offered even in non-Indian universities.

My first Synth! [13 May 2005|07:14pm]

Yesm, I programmed a polysynth! My latest task is adding portamento, a bit harder than a thought since I didnt consider the options of retrigger and legato modes. It has a triangle wave, which can be changed to a ramp or saw wave using the waveform control (which is mapped to my midi keyboard, along with all other controls!)

Next thing I need is a step sequencer...

"Some folks at MIT are holding a time-travelers' convention. The idea is to make it so famous and so widely-known that even thousands of years in the future, people will still know exactly when and where this time-traveler convention went down, and will all come travel to it at some point in their illustrious time-traveling careers. For those interested in attending, it's on May 7, 2005, 10:00pm EDT (08 May 2005 02:00:00 UTC) in the East Campus Courtyard at MIT. 42:21:36.025N, 71:05:16.332W (42.360007,-071.087870 in decimal degrees)."

Playlist Statistics: [26 Apr 2005|09:03pm]
I wrote a program that grabs song lengths from a playlist in itunes and finds the mean and the standard deviation.
Results:
"The Collective" Playlist (all my songs)
223 songs, 8.3 Hours...
Mean: 134 ± 83.8807877114015 seconds
The variability is one standard deviation which encompasses 68.26895% (according to Mathworld) of the data in the sample.
Conclusion: I must say that I'm disappointed, these results show that I should make longer songs.

Update:
Aphex Playlist,
265 songs, 22.8 hours
Mean: 310 ± 429.766645764095 seconds
Conclusion: okay, strange anomaly, but this means that aphex may have a song that is -119.766... seconds long!
Either my program sucks, or its a flaw in deviation (since we are merely making a somewhat random sample, bellshaped), or aphex is one hell of a devious musician, writing music in negative time!
Captains log: It turns out its a bimodal, or perhaps even polymodal distibution, only due to the unusually large length of some tracks, mainly live ones. Hence, an anomaly of standard deviation. Using limits could eliminate this, but, I think I have to go fight the borg.
